Where I am:
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wife and two wonderful daughters.

Where I’m from:
I grew up in Texas and started my career as an Art Director in New York: first at Ogilvy & Mather as an intern, then at BBDO where I worked on clients like Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, General Electric, Campbell’s Soup and Frito-Lay.

From there I moved to Los Angeles to work at a smaller agency, Mendelsohn|Zien after an extended stretch freelancing for them. (How small? The agency's only internet connection was the 56k-baud modem plugged into my computer.) I learned a lot about “wearing different hats” (and all the other clichés about working at a small agency) and produced good work for clients like Carl’s Jr., Taco Bueno, ABC7 News and BMW.

A freelance job turned into a full-time job as a VP/ACD at McCann SF after I had sold two major print and TV campaigns during the early stages of our time with Microsoft. We did great, award-winning work for Microsoft and  other clients like Rosemount Estates Winery, The Computer History Museum, California Grapes, Mattel and General Motors. While there I lead some new business initiatives and oversaw multiple younger teams.

After moving back to the Bay Area in 2013, I joined GodfreyDadich (nee GodfreyQ) on a full-time basis where I served as a Creative Director on many tech accounts guiding multi-disciplanary teams in developing social, mobile, outdoor and traditional media campaigns for many of the greatest companies in the Valley.

Now I freelance for agencies as various as Team One, Deutsch, Kirschenbaum, Campbell-Ewald, Ogilvy LA and Godfrey Q and Partners – who’ve won multiple accounts based on work that I’ve done for them. One of my partners and I pitched and won the business of Sun Microsystems and served as their agency of record for a few years.

It’s been a long trip with some detours but it’s helped me develop the ability to get strong work out the door – whether I’m part of a large, multi-disciplinary team, or whether the entire team consists of just me.

Where I learned:
I attended The University of Texas from 1988 through 1993, but didn’t graduate until I was inspired to finish my degree (see note about wonderful daughters) in 2010, receiving a BS in Advertising (no snickering)

I’ve done a good deal of guest teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Academy of Art College in San Francisco and guest spoke at Advertising classes at Texas. Some of the more rewarding experiences I’ve had in the business.

What I do:
Design – Advertising, typography and graphic design. Photography – I’m an avid photographer who now happily spends most shutter actuations on kid photos. Construction – I’ve thrice bought the ugliest house on the block and through blood, sweat, sawdust and tears managed to elevate it to the third or fourth ugliest house on the block. Cars – Love ’em and had a lot of them. Despite piloting a family truckster now I keep up on the latest and greatest in the auto industry because it’s a passion of mine. Moto – I’m also a motorcycling enthusiast with bikes that have been sitting in the garage unridden for some time (see again note about wonderful daughters). Sport – Huge fan of motorsport and college football.

I am absolutely fluent at Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I'm a professional-level retoucher. I've done final retouching on many visuals that have gone to press in my ads for multinational clients. Also, I’m a fledgling 3D modeling and animator – a skill very useful when GettyImages is coming up dry.
